[Q&A] Chicken pox problem

Question: Dear doctors,
My 9-month-old son is currently having the chicken pox (Day 3). He is scheduled to have his pneumococcal jab in 6 days. My question is:
1) Is it safe for us to continue with the vaccination?
2) Is it safe for a 9-month old baby to take antiviral syrup and cream to be applied on his lesions?
Thank you in advance!

Answer: 1) Not to be given during the illness.
2) No need to give antiviral in otherwise previously healthy child ( it works best only if given within 24 hours) and antiviral cream is not used for chicken pox. drink lots of water, paracetamol for fever , warm soak . I do not generally recommend calamine lotion because it can cause over drying of skin and worsen itchiness.
