[Q&A] My son is close to 5 months old and suffering from bad eczema on the face ( atopic eczema)

Question: dear doctor(s),
my son is close to 5 months old and suffering from bad eczema on the face ( atopic eczema) .. he is fully breastfeed.. recently my supply is very low and EBM’s stocks are all running out.. i am trying to build up back the stock but it will be very time consuming. my supply is drop due to lack of sleep n stress . i think i have to find an alternative milk to top up with my EBM in case if i have to travel away from home due to work and all my stock is gone. i never introduced any kind of milk and most likely he will be allergic to cow milk..
kindly advice what sort of milk will be suitable for him apart from Hypoallergenic milk (HA)? i am so
reclutant to feed him with HA because it taste horrible and artificial .. for you info, this is only for temporary until i manage to build up my stock and my breast milk is back to normal.. thank you in advance

Answer: For you to keep producing breastmilk, the best way is to continue breastfeeding.
If you need to change him to formula and taking into account the history of atopy , hypoallergenic formula is your best choice. Remember , that babies are more receptive to new flavors . Often the problem in taking hypoallergenic formula occurs when the baby has tried other formula milk. Your other alternative is soy based milk though 40% of those with cos milm protein allergy also has soy allergy (cross -reactivity). Other factors needs to be considered when a child refused formula and not merely due to the formula itself .
