Question: my daughter is 8 years old with normal built. she has been complaingn pain over her right nipple for a bout 2 weeks. no history of trauma. i noticed a small swelling underlying her skin over areola about 2 mm which moves and its painful when i touch it. took her to a doctor and he said its just breast bud and nothing to worry. i have a family history breast cancer in my mom and i’m quite worried. otherwise she is ok. do i have to further investigate this?
Answer: Usually breast pain is due to hormones, and it is cyclical, and could be commonly seen in a growing breast during puberty. For breast cancer, feeling pain is very uncommon. So in a way, a painless lump in the breast is more suggestive of cancer. But if you are worried, you can always get a second opinion. From a surgeon if you want. I dont recommend doing any extra blood test/procedure.
