Question: Good day Doctor,
My son is 2 years 5 months now. As he is turning 3 this year both me and my husband decided to enrol him to a play-school and continued with the day-care.
It has been four days and he cries non-stop untill I go to pick him up in the evening. Is this something normal?
This is somehow disturbing me. Its very painful to see my lil one crying. The worse part is, he cried when we wanted to bring him out at night thinking we want to sent him to school. How can I help him to make him understand doc?
Thanks
Malar
Answer: Hi Malar, Yes it is normal. He may not be ready for the whole day school/ daycare yet. He is not even three. Is he aware that he is going to school? The original concept of play school is based on playgroup where the children play with other children, with parents around sitting in the conner to observe them. If you feel that he really need to go to school at this age, I suggest you make enough preparation to help him to prepare for school. Both parents need to spend some time to talk to him about school, use lots of pictures, drawing or social stories of ‘going to school’. Visit the school with him, introduce him to the teachers and other kids. Perhaps this article can help https://www.doktorbudak.com/2013/12/07/anak-saya-menangis-bila-dihantar-ke-taska/ It can be quite frightening for a 19 months old to be left alone with ‘strangers’ at school. His reaction is normal. All the best!
