Questions:
1. What is the incidence in Malaysia? Is is common diagnosis among children.
2. Recently my son got allergic reaction after his babysitter gave him peanutbutter cookies. He got some urticaria over the face and body. According to the baby sitter there was no breathing difficulty or wheezing noted. I understand that there are many ingredients in the cookies itself and all can actually trigger allergic reaction. But i dont want to just assume its the other ingredient causing the allergic reaction. I know when i was in australia, peanut allergy is a very serious condition where it can cause anaphylaxis reaction and you need epi pen standby.

Answer: Munirah, Food allergy is the most common allergy in children , but there is no official statistics on the incidence of peanut allergy per se in Malaysia. You certainly need to bring your child to see the Paediatrician. If one has allergy to nuts/peanuts, education is most vital. Not only consuming peanuts directly can cause a reaction , any kind of exposure to nuts/peanuts , or taking other products processed in a nut-producing factory can also cause harm. Anaphylaxis is an emergency and is something that you want to prevent and always on standby on. Please discuss with your paediatrician about allergy testing and epipen if your child has this allergy.

Salam.. Doktor,soalan saya tentang allergik juga.. Umur ank saya 7buln 3minggu.saya start weaning diet masa umur 6bulan. Antara makanan yang saya sediakan ialah kentang,lobak,bayam,epal.. Dan sekarang saya mula tambah dengan ayam dan kentang bersama bubur.. Selepas 3hari bahu ank saya mula naik bintik merah seakan-akan gigitan nyamuk. Selepas itu, mula naik di bahagian dahi dan pipi.. Adakah ini tanda anak saya allergik dengan ayam? Saya sudah berhenti beri mkn bubur ayam dlm masa sehari. Bintik merah masih ada..ank tiada tanda2 analpylaxis .. Perlu ke saya bawa jumpa pakar2 kanak2? Harap doktor boleh beri feedback pda saya.. Tq..
