[Q&A] The function of paracetamol in different amount

Question: I have a one year old son weight 9kg.Very seldom he had fever..unfortunately he had one last month.A GP prescribed 5ml of 250mg paracetamol..yesterday we went to pead for MMR immunisation but he only prescribe 2.5ml(to be used incase of fever).. I’m a bit concern with 5ml dose we gave before.Need your advice

Answer: Nadia , the dose of paracetamol is 15 mg per kilogram of body weight. He shd be given 2.5 mls whenever there’s fever of more than 38 degrees celcius every 6 hours if needed. The dose increases when the weight increases . The 5 mls dose is unlikely to have cause any harm if not given for long.
