Question: Hi Doc,
Recently, my 6 year old girl is having frequent urination at times. Within 1 hour, she could pass urine up to 3 times. Is this normal? She doesn’t complained of any pain during urination and I checked the amount urine passed out is not too little and looks OK. What could the problem be? Should I take her for a urine test? (Michelle Ho)
Answer: Dear Michelle, How about passing urine at night? Is she able to control herself at night? Passing a lot of urine together with being thirsty all the time can be a sign of diabetes insipidus (abnormality in the hormone level that controls fluid balance status), and other possible issues. So yes, I think you should bring her for a proper assessment. She may need more than just urine test. A test of her renal function which includes her serum electrolytes will be useful.
