Question: My daughter who is fast approaching 3 years old seems to be blinking her eyes excessively ie several times per minute. Is there a cause for concern or is it merely a bad habit. We have been correcting her but it doesn’t seem to help. Could it be some medical condition? Please advice. (Lilian Koh)
Answer: Hi Pn Lilian, excessive eye blinking can be due to several causes, which includes habitual eye blinking which we call a tic. This does not require medication but probably some behavior training may help. However, it can also be due to eye conditions such as eye lid problem, eye lid spasms, lens focal problem(refractory issue requiring spectacles) – i suggest you get an ophthalmologist to review your daughter.
