Question: Hi Doctor,
My daughter was 7 months 3 weeks, phlegm cough and colds. though not so severe cough but lasted over 3 weeks. I have been to the clinic and the doctor gives medicine to dissolve phlegm. is it possible to infants aged 7 months 3 weeks of taking the medication dissolve phlegm in the dosage prescribed by the doctor at 1.5.
Answer: children less than 2 years should not receive cough and flu medication as it causes sleepiness and therefore poses risk in younger children . However, without knowing the name of the medication I cant surely tell you not to take it as some doctors may have explained to you that it dissolved phlegm when actually it is not a cough medication e.g salbutamol syrup
