My son is 11month+ and currently he has cough with phlegm (lots of it) and abit temperature at night until fajr prayer. He has just recovered a week ago but now he has started again..it was so heart-wrenching to see him coughing loudly knowing there is so many phlegm in his chest. I had to take him for nebulizer a few times to reduce it. My query is what is actually the symptoms of this type of coughing and how would i avoid it ? Is it true that it is not advisable to give babies medicine for cough and flu ? It has been almost a week already my son is on medicine and there is no sign of reduce coughing..I am worried.
Answer: The best thing to do is to visit your paediatrician for a check up. The lungs need to be examined to see if the airways are affected. Although cough and flu medication are contraindicated in children less than 2, there are other medications that can be used to relieve the airways and indirectly treat the cough as well.
