[Q&A] Ear infection problem

Question: Dear doctors, my 1 yo son is having recurrent ear infection. Discharge from his left ear only-macam nanah or is it really nanah? Now is the third time. Two previous ‘attack’ he was prescribed with Augmentin antibiotic. Is it really necessary to take antibiotic? The 2nd ‘attack’ just over for few days and he got it again. How to prevent? Yes it started with flu…Kena cepat2 mkn ubat selsema ke?

Answer: Not all cases needs to be given antibiotics as per American Paediatrics guidelines. A few factors need to be considered- fever, redness of the tympanic membrane of the ear, whether he has been treated w antibiotics before and not responding. But i wont be able to advise u further as his ears need to be examined. My suggestion is to see an Ears Nose Throat (ENT) specialist .
