Question: My daughter is 9months and having fever (armpit temperature 37.5deg).also having runny nose.went to the doctor and doc confirmed that it is the common viral fever.prescribed some oral medicine for fever,flu and cough and also nasal drop. My question is;is it necessary to give baby the oral medicines or let her body fight off the illness naturally since it is nothing serious?
Answer: If she is otherwise active, feeding well and the fever is mild, it’s fine not to give meds as viral illness wld usually go off by itself. However, if the temp is increasing do give her fever medication. Cough and flu syrup shd not be given in children less than 2 years old. Nasal drop is for blocked nose .
